Echium Flowers

Purple Vipers Bugloss
(Echium plantagineum)

An annual native to the Mediterranean, preferring the thin, dry soils, Echium grows 20 - 60cm in height  with rough, hairy, lanceolate leaves. The flowers vary in colour from a striking blue / mauve to white.

Echium seed oil is used in the Nutraceutical and cosmetic industries. The oil contains the important omega-3 Stearidonic Acid (SDA), the omega-3 series equivalent for omega-6 Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA). SDA only exists in a few plant sources, Echium Oil is the second richest source, only oil from the plant Buglossoides arvensis is higher in SDA. Echium Oil also contains omega-3 Alpha Linolenic Acid (ALA).

Echium oil is a true alternative to fish oils.
